Not Necessarily What We Went For

Hubby and I went to Seattle Friday and Saturday.  I went to a gift show for the museum gift shop and he went along to keep me company.  The gift show wasn't good, we got skunked, however; now we know not to attend that show.

 We consoled ourselves with a drink at Oliver's in the Mayflower Hotel.  Truly, a favorite spot to take in the hustle bustle of the city on a Friday afternoon.  Their Silver Belle makes a wonderful Christmas party signature drink

Oliver's Silver Belle Cocktail
In a mixing glass with ice add:
2 oz. Grey Goose Vodka
1 oz. St Germaine
1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1 oz. Champagne
Pour over ice in mixing glass, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass. 

Top off with Champagne.
Serve on a winter's day to friends from near and far.

We needed some plate hangers from Hobby Lobby. 

 We found quite a bit more than we went for though and left with a bag or two  from Hobby Lobby.

We were looking for new outdoor Christmas lights and thought we might find them this weekend.

 No luck finding exterior lights but we did find interior lights and we did find our favorite designer at Restoration Hardware.  It was fun to see Grace at work.

We went to Pottery Barn to make a return and left with more.

We went to Anthropologie, where they take the ordinary and always make it extraordinary.  

Walnuts and paint, hello!

 We had a long lunch with Laura at UVill, it was literally  hours  of lunch.  So good to catch up with her.

The Fall colors were gorgeous in Seattle and the trip was great.

Even though we didn't really get what we went for, we got  more  and  even better.  

It was a wonderful weekend in the city.

2010 4th of July

Hubby and I enjoyed fireworks three nights in a row. Hubby's Dad is a licensed pyro-technician so two of the shoots were his. On the 3rd he had a shoot at Sunland Estates on the Columbia River. The echo off the cliffs makes this one my favorite.

Since we were in George , Washington for the 4th this year we jumped in and took advantage of their celebration. Laura, Marie, Paul and Laura and their girls and myself came early and did the two mile Cherry Bomb Run. Some of us placed and some of us didn't, but we all finished. After the run we went to breakfast at the George Community Hall. At ten the parade started and everyone was in town by then. Brooke rode in the back of a decorated pick up and threw us lots of candy.




Laura and I went home to shower and then returned for the horchata and the el Salvadora treat, pupusas. The pupusas are eaten with a coleslaw called curtido. I would have liked to have taken this grandma home with me.


We spent most of the day in the park catching up with family and friends. Lots of games for the kids, live music and a car show.

I wanted to play BiNgO at the community hall at four o'clock but no one else wanted that experience so we went back to the folks. Hubby's Mom made ribs for dinner and then we watched the George fireworks show.

A good time was had by all. Tomorrow I'll share more about our visit with Max.

Some of you more observant viewers may have noticed that I added a new blog to my sidebar. "Laura's Blog" Laura is my hubby's "sister". She is also Aunt Extrordinaire for my guys. Laura is a social worker at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle and for many years she has been taking Spanish classes in the evenings. On Saturday she flew to Costa Rica to stay with a host family and take a Spanish class geared for hospital social workers. After two weeks of class Laura has family in Costa Rica and she'll be traveling and staying with them. You can read of her adventures on her blog. I am so proud of Laura, she has had a goal to go to Costa Rica on her own for a longer time and now her dream is coming true. Muy bien!
