If you are going out for lunch everyday then money is flying out of your account. I make lunches here. It saves money and it really isn't possible for my guys to go out for lunch. So, I guess I don't have a choice. Making lunches is not my favorite chore. My guys opening their lunch to the same old, same old everyday gets old too. I try to change it up.
Ebenezer Christian School has an annual fundraiser where they sell sub sandwiches. A cute little guy calls us every year and we order subs. This year, once they were gone, we decided to make our own. I broke down the cost today. In the subs pictured I used Costco sandwich rolls, turkey, black forest ham and Havarti cheese. Eighteen subs ready to go for $1.05 each. Definitely less than Subway.
It is easy to grab them out of the freezer in the morning and I only have one time getting everything out. That is the part I don't like, getting everything out to make two sandwiches.
Give it a try. Your guys and your bank account will thank you.
Lightly butter the rolls and then start layering.

Ready for the freezer. I do put them back in the plastic bags to help keep them fresher.

If you are really nice you could bag some lettuce and tomato in the morning, and they can add it at lunch. My guys like them warm and do have access to microwaves.
Don't worry Tristan, we will still order subs from you, sometimes I need a break.
