She isn't Very Nice
The Northwest Washington Fair is in Lynden next week. A time of telling...Max's hard work will go before judges for 4-H Dairy, Type and Open Class. All of the Farmers are a twitter over #52, Max's cow, she's beautiful in a dairy sort of way. However, huge problemo, she is NOT nice. She won't lead and she has tried to bite Max. Listen Missy! Dogs bite, cows slobber! We were at the farm late last night trying new angles and are going back this morning. Max must prevail!

Patio Tour Time
Relax, it's summertime...

My family spends a lot of time on the patio, mostly in the summer, although in the winter we are in the hot tub. The hedge around the patio creates "walls" which give the patio a room-like feel. I keep white fairy lights or Christmas lights, same thing, depending on the season, on year-round. In the summer lots of patio lanterns and lights. Container gardening and a small water feature that Danny and I put together a few summers ago. My spot is on the chaise lounge with a favorite quilt and good book. We like to play cribbage and other card games too. We have dinner on the patio and morning coffee too. The rocks in the pottery square is our heat source. It is a gas fire and it gives off enough heat to keep things cozy and to roast marshmallows. The concrete bench with mosaic top by the hot tub was done by Max and myself. My hubby added the lower level for the BBQ this year and Sam made the metal bench in high school shop class. Our patio is truly a family effort and a great family spot.

Mystery Guests
Last evening Vern and Shelly came for dinner, well, drinks actually, but I had dinner planned. What the birthday girl did not know was that I invited mystery guests. Ad, our Spanish teacher and Shelly's Mom, Nelia came for dinner too. I think a good time was had by all. My hubby ran into our neighbors today, they thought it sounded like a very, very good time. They heard lots of laughing and singing and wondered about the BIG party.
*Sorry about the poor photography, I can not, for the life of me, entertain and take pics at the same time. Shelly has much better pics on her blog.

Happy Birthday Shelly
My dear friend, Shelly has a birthday today. I've invited her and her husband to stop by for drinks. You know, a cocktail. In the city that is just what it means- a cocktail hour. We are country folk. so, this is what stop by for a drink means...Have a glass of wine, a beer and snacks and then we are having a good time and you stay for dinner. Sometimes when I invite I have a plan or a tentative idea or sometimes my plan is to order out for pizza. Summertime is easy, I always have a plan and am ready because we LOVE friends and family on the patio.
Anyway, last year Shelly stopped by for a birthday libation and she had evening plans with her hubby. Pretty soon she called him to come over, then BIL Bill stopped by. Pretty soon I told Bill I was going to call my sis, Jodi, his wife. He thought I meant to tell on him for sitting around at our place. What I meant was to invite her to come over. Yikes, that guy! Anyway, the whole business ended up here and I had no plan. Eventually, I found something to throw on the grill and Shelly ended up having hot dogs for her Bday dinner instead of yummy dinner at the Cliffhouse with her hubby.
My point is (by now you must be thinking, for crying out loud, lady, get to the point) that Shelly is tons of fun and a sweet friend that can just go with the flow and have a good time. Really, the best kind of friend to have! Happy Bday Shell, stop by tonight and we'll see what happens.
