Random Monday

Hubby and I tore into the Curtis Wright last week.  Everything is off the floor.  It feels good to be this far in the going backwards stage however; this is the part where I have misgivings, remorse and trepidation. Completely overwhelmed here.

 One of my jobs is to photograph every inch of the layout so that we can get it all back together.

 Now there is some decison making going on here.  I want tear it to the frame and put down the new subfloor and marmoleum.  Hubby wants to wait until spring.

 It's not been all work and no play here, we had dinner at the Black Forest with our friend, Adelene.  I think that counts as our Octoberfest for the season.

 My new favorite from the grocery store is Greek whipped cream cheese and Greek yogurt.  It's great with a spicy jam and crackers or on bagels.

 I've been pairing it with toasted pumpkin bagels, Liz's blackberry jam and Black Forest ham.  I made up this little sammy and I love it.  It's a bit like turkey and cranberries on a sandwich.

 I've been crafting too.  On November 19th, I'll have a small booth at 'Tis the Season at Van Vino.  I'll post more details later.

 I'll have some train cases and a lot of vintage Christmas.

 I went with an ombre look for one of the wreaths.  It has been fun putting some things together but honestly the whole thing is starting to freak me out.  What if I don't have enough things made?  What if no one buys anything from me?  What if I price it wrong?  What if I can't make my booth look good?  What if ... UGH!

Max came here this weekend.  Bo came along and Bo spent most of the weekend with me.  He is super good in the house.  Oh My, does he shed.  Bo looks like he is suffering from severe depression if Max isn't around but really he had a nice time with me.  And I with him.  Well, except for when I took him for a walk and a squirrel ran across the road.  Then he pulled my arm out of its socket.

A Curtis Wright update, a sandwich recipe, Octoberfest, some crafting and insecurities and a cute dog, that's it.  Pretty random here.

Let's Get Caught Up

 Last week was a blur for me.  No posts on the blog but there was a lot happening here. On Monday Hubby and I trimmed the hedges.  It's the worst day of the year, every year, at the Stone House.  But we got it done and now we shall enjoy fall.  I've even done some fall decor in the house and planted some mums.  Good thing, as it's now October.  

I can't even say that out loud.

Let's get caught up, shall we?

 When we picked up the Curtis Wright this spring he wasn't the only trailer in the field.  There are others and two in particular that I'd like to have some day.  In the meantime Jeremy and Rene were looking for a bigger trailer than Tin Lizzy.

 I told them I had one in mind for them but that it was laying on its side so it may be really trashed on that side.  I showed them some pictures and they were interested.  I called my friend and he said sure they could have it.  Arrangements were made and we met in the field on Tuesday morning.  

 With a tractor, its bucket, a chain and some hi-lo jacks we got the Duke flipped.

 Hey, he looks good after laying around for 10-15 years after a severe wind storm that tipped him over.

 Rene is thrilled!  I know that the Duke may not look like much right now but just wait.

We love our vintage trailers!  It's hard to have just one.  It was fun to be part of another rescue with Jeremy and Rene.  I know they will save the Duke.

 Meanwhile, the CW is getting torn down.  We hope to have him down to the trailer frame this week.  The cabinets that can be restored will go into the garage and our winter work will begin. 

 I did a little junkin' with Chris and Shelly on Friday morning and we ran into Kim.  She bought a wheel barrow for pumpkins.  Won't that be cute?  I hadn't been junkin' with the girls for a long time.  They found a lot of treasures, me not so much.  It is difficult to purchase junk treasures when you have just been to the dump with four truck loads of junk.  It was fun to see my junkin' peeps and get caught up and now I wish we'd taken a selfie.

 I have sorted all of my extra vintage Christmas. Now I can start crafting.  I plan to be a vendor at 'Tis the Season at Van Vino in November.

 I'll have a lot of vintage Christmas and luggage.

I tried a new ghetto soda, the Safeway lemon seltzer, which technically isn't soda pop, and I like it.  Just thought I'd pass that along.

We got our Pizzaque oven and so far we like it.  Hubby had to read the instructions to get it together...

Last night my family came for pizza and I think it tasted pretty good. The stone is now seasoned and it's going better.  It is fun to have everyone bring toppings. 

  And lastly, the Seattle Seahawks are back!  It felt like Richard Sherman got his game on yesterday and it reminded me of a Thanksgiving game he'd played.  My theory was that Russell Wilson limped around in a brace during warm ups to psych the Jets.  It worked. Hah!

Well, I think we are all caught up unlike my laundry.

Random Bits

From the first moment I walked into the Curtis Wright I knew there was a great oven in the junk.  If nothing else I can spot a diamond in the rough.

It had a 1/2 inch of dust and icky bits everywhere.

 I've spent the better part of two days uncovering a beauty.

 I love the cooking times and temperatures on the oven door.

 The burner grates are missing and the springs need to be replaced.

 Overall, it is in good condition and I love the shape and lines.  The door handles need to be chromed but the overall body is in great shape.  I cannot wait to see if she works.   Isn't she pretty?

 Hubby and I have been enjoying the last days of summer.  Friends on the patio for starters and dinner indoors.  Warm afternoons and cooler evenings in September.

 I've been crafting too.

 Jeremy and Rene spent a few days with us this week.  They were in town helping family.  It was fun to see them.  It's always a lot of laughter with them.

The garagecarportwoodshed project is almost complete.  Hubby and I worked nonstop for two days, took four trips to the dump with a grand total of 1,257+ pounds of garbage, wood,  and recycling.  We are still married.  I just need to recycle four tires and sell a metal cabinet.  There are still a few areas to rearrange but the junk is gone.  I had made a trip to Goodwill and one to the thrift store. It feels so good.

It's Fall y'all and so begins the raking.  I have done some trimming and weeding this week.  My goal is to fill three 5 gallon buckets or three wheel barrels a day with yard waste.  Slow and steady wins the race.

The Great Trailer of the Great West

Hubby and I have had a lot of fun this summer and we have seen a lot of pretty.  When we were in the trenches rebuilding our '57 Aloha, and by trenches I was polishing metal everyday, all day in the hottest part of the summer, I repeatedly told Hubby, I just want to see some pretty.

When we drug home the Curtis Wright Flagship in April, I had a condition that we not get so busy with the next restoration that we didn't get to enjoy our Aloha and see some pretty.  We have had a lot of great trips this summer and now we are getting busy on the next project.

It may not seem as though we have gotten very far on the CW Flagship but  I have been busy making room in the garage and carport so that we can work on it this winter.  Cleaning the garage isn't trailer restoration but it is a necessary piece of the puzzle.  The metal is off, the sleeper sofa is recovered, research is happening.

Dal Smiley sent us a treasure trove of research from the RV Hall of Fame Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.  Thank you Dal! You saved me a trip.

The slogan for Curtis Wright trailers was The Great Trailer of the Great West.  It is a similar slogan to what the Aloha trailers later had in the mid 1950's.  The Aloha slogan was Built in the Northwest for the Northwest.

There are little facts in these ads that are useful such as the mention of the metal counter tops.  I wanted to do metal in our restoration and this proves that the yellow flooring on the counter was added later.

 Now we need a Flymobil.  Not to actually be airborne but to drive around trailer parks.

 The 16' is like a mini me of our Flagship.  Dal has secured a model one and it's being restored.  It will be nice to see these Curtis Wright trailers restored and parked together at a rally someday.

 Oh my, we were so hopeful that this photo would be an interior shot of the Flagship.  It is not.

 It's great to see the Curtis Wright logo and the fonts used so that we can have signage made.  Rene, start thinking about this one!

 The production line reminds me of our last wall building for the Aloha.

The Orchard that Grows Trailers is fitting for our CW as we found it in a field across the road from apple orchards.

 I love this one (Trailer in the Clouds) and plan to frame it with a few others for the Flagship.

The appliances are my problem.  Hubby pulled them out last night so I can get started cleaning them and coming up with a plan to get them working.

 I think the fridge and stove are in great shape because they were in a dry climate.

 Last night Hubby and I had an informal CW board meeting and came up with a winter plan for restoration without a shop.  Go us!

 I am not sure if an outlet with three plug ins is legal anymore but we have one and will keep it.  It's like the original power strip.  Of course, we are rewiring and plan to add 12 volt for dry camping.

The dining area has caused a lot of discussion, maybe some arguing and nothing has been resolved.  

 Hubby and I enjoy camping in the fall and sometimes need to have dinner inside when it's cold.  We play a lot of cribbage and gin rummy while camping.  The dining area needs to be comfortable.  It needs to be built around the existing floor plan and the wheel well.  We want to keep the CW as original as possible but we want to be comfortable as we plan to use it.  That is the whole point, right?  Curtis Wright and Aloha had slogans and I do too.  Have fun and see some pretty!  
Not that I consider getting beat at gin rummy fun.

In the meantime, I'll be carefully removing window trim this week.
